Cleaning hacks for the Everyday Mom!

Cleaning Tips for the Busy Mama

Staying on top of housework can be challenging without throwing kids into the mix. You have to separate your time depending on the age of your child(ren) (i.e. diaper changes, doctor appts, school drop offs, homework, etc.). When you add keeping the house tidy to that list, it can feel overwhelming. I’ve been there and totally get which is why I wanted to share some of my tips for keeping that house together!

Make Lists
This may not seem important but, if you list all the small/big jobs you want to accomplish before the day, week, or month, it will help to keep you accountable/organized. There are cleaning schedules available online that may be helpful when making your list!

Time Management
Of course, when kids are at school it may be easier to clean, but when they are in those diaper to toddler years, you may be running around like a chicken with your head cut off. So, take advantage of the time when the little ones may be napping, in bed, or when dad is playing with them. Don’t do this every time because moms need their quiet time too!

Make it a Game
Kids love to be rewarded and feel like they are contributing. Cleaning up toys and messes doesn’t have to be all bad when you’re making it a race. Also, if you give them small/age appropriate chores they can accomplish, that will help take the load off of your shoulders and teach them responsibility at the same time!

Easier Said Than Done
Try and clean as you go. While cooking dinner, things can get out of hand quick. Try to start with a clean slate and put dirty dishes away as you go and wipe the counters before bed. It’s so refreshing to wake up to a clean kitchen. This tip can go with any room and can easily be made into a good habit!

Laundry Hacks
Depending on how many people are in your family, the amount of clothes may resemble a mountain. The way I make laundry less of a nightmare is by getting rid of things no one wears. It opens up more room in the closet and dressers making it easier to put laundry away when it’s finished. No matter how tired I am, I always start a load before bed because it’s the one thing that takes two seconds to start and walk away from. Laundry can also be pretty easy even with a baby or toddler. Strap that baby on your front or back and go to town. One more thing I like to do is sort laundry by importance. The things that can wait, leave them be, just throw in what needs to be done right then.

Cleaning isn’t always fun but, it’s something that has to be done to keep us mama’s sane. Hopefully these tips help you as much as they helped me and allows you to enjoy time with your family.
